Haiti: End of mission for TSFAfter having responded for more than one month to the cyclones in Haiti, TSF’s mission is now over. In September, Haiti was hit consecutively by 4 hurricanes: Fay, Gustav, Hanna and Ike. The main affected area is Gonaïves, a northern city of 300,000 inhabitants already affected in 2004 where at least 250,000 people needed immediate assistance. Les Gonaïves soon became the main humanitarian hub for aid agencies (both UN and NGOs) with overall coordination in the capital Port au Prince.

Preventing Corruption in Humanitarian Assistance
Transparency International (TI) has undertaken a
project to address the issue of corruption in humanitarian assistance starting
in 2006.
The final report, titled Preventing Corruption in
Humanitarian Assistance: Final Research Report, provides details of the
research working in partnership with seven of the leading INGO humanitarian
providers to ascertain the views of both headquarters and field staff on the
risks of corruption they encountered in their work, the impact of such risks on
their mission, the systems they currently use to prevent and detect corruption,
and potential improvements in such systems.
